Smiling (or Psycho) Hyena Card

Hello crafty friends,

Before I came up with today's card design I had a few other ideas that were completely different from this - however I ended up being much happier because this slightly crazy looking hyena with his or her head tilted to the side just makes me laugh and hopefully it will brighten your day!

I created a video tutorial for this card so my write up is going to be a little less detailed.  Here are the steps I followed, otherwise feel free to skip right on to the video.   Supplies are listed at the very end of the post - (Disclosure:  affiliate links used, which cost you nothing additional if used to purchase and helps support the cost of this blog as well as bring you more inspiration throughout the year)

WRITTEN STEP BY STEP:

  1. Used this stencil to create a background on a 4.25" x 5.5" white piece of cardstock by ink blending four Distress Oxide inks - Peeled Paint, Blue China, Picked Raspberry and Wilted Violet (violet in honor of Pantone's 2018 color of the year)
  2. added a solid stripe of Wilted Violet across the top and bottom - about 1/2" using post it tape to mask it off from the already stenciled area
  3. Stamped and colored the Hyena stamp with alcohol markers, mostly Spectrum Noir colors.  In the video I show in detail which colors and how I combined them.  Used 80# Neenah solar white cardstock.
  4. Die cut the Hyena using my Scan N Cut - you could fussy cut with scissors instead. Stamped the "you make me smile" sentiment with Versamark- FREE this month with ANY order at So Suzy Stamps - (more at the end of this post about this and other stamps on sale this month).
  5. Added white embossing powder and heat set
  6. Used a circle punch to create the disco ball out of holographic cardstock
  7. Curved the sides of the "disco ball" using the barrel of a marker (will make more sense if you watch the video) so it wasn't flat
  8. Added dimensional foam tape and dots to back of the hyena before adhering to bottom right side of card front.
  9. Added pop up dots to just the center of the disco ball, glued down towards top left side.
  10. Glued card front to an A2 sized side folding white card base (finished size 4.25" x 5.5"
