Groot says.....I am Groot

Hello crafty friends,

I have been on a bit of a trend lately with creating backgrounds with stencils.  They are so handy to create a variety of looks and since I have this wood grain one in my stash I thought it would pair nicely with the new release Groot stamp from Crackerbox & Suzy stamps.

Starting with white cardstock as a card panel, I needed a circle mask for the place where Groot would be stamped.  I used computer removable labels for my masking - I die cut a circle large enough to leave about 3/4" on each side of the stamped image into the masking paper, then put that on my white card panel.

Next I placed the stencil over top of the mask and used a mini ink blending tool to apply brown ink over the stencil.  I removed the stencil and applied a much lighter overall color on top of it.  In places I deepened the shadows of the tree knots with a brown pencil.

After removing the mask, I stamped the Groot image into the center and colored with Copic markers. I then stamped the sentiment "I am Groot" over top of the pot.

The embellishment around the circle you see is a handle from a brown paper bag.  I used a low temperature glue gun to adhere it to the card, starting at the top of the circle, then adding a dab of glue an inch or so from the top until I had the "handle" glued down in a complete circle.  I thought this would be fun since Groot is made up of lots of branches and this plays to that part of his character.

Below are reminders of special discounts/sales/etc still going on for the remainder of August at the Crackerbox & Suzy Stamps store.
