Don't we all like a good laugh? This punny sentiment is perfect paired with the simple birthday cake stamp.
Here's a photo tutorial on the background I made with a stencil, Distress Oxide (new color Mermaid Lagoon!) and Caribbean brights Color Bursts, which is a powdered watercolor medium.
First I added temporary adhesive to the back of my watercolor paper (Ranger), then placed the stencil over top and taped with post it tape
After doing my ink blending with Mermaid Lagoon. To retain the texture from the paper I didn't press down too hard.
Now I slide the stencil over to cover up where I just did the ink blending
Here are the two colors I used from Color Burst
After sprinkling a little of the powders on top of the paper (dry at this point)
After spritzing liberally with water
and voila! A background is created - one of the things about this medium is you have to be ok that it's a bit messy and you don't have a ton of control over it. I found I had more control by spritzing water on AFTER sprinkling on the powder. When I tried the other way around, too much water seeped under the stencil
After stamping my two images I started with the basic coloring
Now after adding some interest with a white gel pen. I forgot to take a picture after adding even more interest using Prismacolor colored pencils. You can see the final result in the very first photo.
